Welcome to 2014-5 Academic Year at Marish.
The staff team are looking forward to welcoming all children in years 1 to 6 back to Marish on Thursday 4th September at the usual times. There are a number of exciting developments happening at the beginning of the term, so please read this message carefully and if you need any further information please ring or email, or call in to the school office on Tuesday or Wednesday 2nd or 3rd September.
Reception and Nursery will have a staggered start over the next two weeks, beginning on Monday 8th September as we open the brand new combined Early Years Unit.
Please note that the school will be undergoing a complete electrical rewire between now and March 2015 and this will mean some changes to entry and exit points to the school. In the short term, year 3 children should go to the Infant playground at 8.40am on Thursday, where their teachers will be waiting for them. Years 1 and 2 should also wait in the infant playground as usual, but the new year 1 children will be taken into the school hall and divided into their classes there. Parents are welcome to accompany their child into the hall from 8.45am on Thursday and Friday mornings this week. All children in yrs 1, 2 and 3 can be collected form the infant playground at home time each day.
Years 4, 5 and 6 children will be collected by their teachers from the Junior playground as usual at 8.40 am every day from Thursday 4th September. If you would like your junior child to walk home unaccompanied this year, please send in or email written permission.
Another new initiative this term is the universal free school dinners for all Reception, year 1 and year 2 children. Parents do not need to register for the lunches, as we will assume your infant child is having a free lunch unless you tell us in a letter or email that you do not want the free lunches and send in a packed lunch with your infant child on Thursday. Children in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 can choose to have school lunches but these have to be paid for in the usual way.
Despite the disappointing Ofsted report earlier this year, Marish had very positive results at all levels in summer 2014 and we are keen to share with you some of the plans we have for improving the school further. To this end, in the first two weeks of term, we will be inviting parents to attend an informal meeting/workshop with me and members of the governing body when we can present the school’s plans and get your contributions and feedback too. There will be a series of workshops at different times of the day including an evening meeting to enable as many people as possible to attend- so watch this space!
A new national curriculum will be launched this September and over the last year, we have worked hard to design an innovative curriculum that is broad, balanced and which will meet the learning needs of our children and challenge all of them to fulfil their potential. This new curriculum will dovetail with our new target setting and assessment framework. These developments will be explained at the meet the teacher evenings in mid September, as well as at the workshops mentioned above.
Over the first few days of term, details of all these events and more will be sent home to you, by letter or text reminding you to consult the website. So make sure you empty those bags! If in doubt, as always, do not hesitate to email or phone the school office.
Looking forward to working in partnership with you all during 2014-5,
Mrs Denham and the Marish staff team.
